A: The Air Conditioning systems that Auto manufacturers are installing on most vehicles sold today use a new type of refrigerant called R1234yf. The main reason for this new Refrigerant is to lower its global warming potential, which is Carbon Dioxide (Greenhouse gas). One gram of R1234a (the old type of Freon) is equivalent to 1430 grams of Carbon Dioxide. One gram of R1234yf is equivalent to 4 grams of Carbon Dioxide, which is a dramatic reduction in Greenhouse gases that retains atmospheric Heat (Leading to Global Warming).
